All the days after the Fourth of July seem like a downhill slide toward August and another academic year. I’ll have a second and third grader in the next few weeks. It’s hard to believe time has gone by so quickly, how fast they’ve grown, and already how much older they seem as the school year approaches.
While they’ll be tackling math and spelling, all my free time will be filled with writing and editing. I’ve got so many great things coming in the next few months and I can’t wait to share them with you. There will be one full length novel and a short story as part of a boxset including other authors for the Halloween season. So if you enjoy a little bit of horror and suspense I’ll have you covered!
In other exciting news I have some beautiful art to share! I commissioned the very talented WinterOfHerDiscontent to create a painting for my novel The Scent of Leaves.
If you’re not familiar with the fairy tale/ballad of Tam Lin I’ve got a blogpost over at my website that touches a little bit on it here. The TLDR version is this: Janet falls in love with Tam Lin (a human man) who is a poisoner of the Queen of the Fairies and tries to save him. In the final showdown the Queen tells Janet she can keep Tam Lin if she can hold on to him. Tam Lin then changes in several different beasts and Janet holds on for dear life. Then we get a happily ever after.
WinterOfHerDiscontent interpreted the moments when Janet holds onto Tam Lin as he changes. I love this story so much and I love this beautiful painting even more.
If you’re interested in following this talented artists or exploring her other paintings I’ve included all her social links as well as the places where you can pick up a print. She’s done some really incredible pieces and I urge you to check her out.
